Dear future self,

Hello! How are you doing?Currently everyone is  in a pandemic where nobody can go anywhere. Where have you gone in the last few years? Have you gone on any vacations?🏝️ We can’t even go to school right now. How has it been being able to go to school? I can’t wait for when everyone can go back to school! Are you really busy again? We are usually really busy, but now that the corona virus is here we aren’t busy. 

What are you interested in right now? Do you still play softball and basketball? Currently I really like art, basketball, softball and many other things. Is art one of your favorite hobbies? It is one of mine right now. 

What is important to you right now? Currently the things that are important to me are my family, my friends, my teachers and sports.  In the current situation though, I can not see my friends or my teachers and I can not play sports.😥Who are some of your best friends right now? 

Are you getting ready to learn how to drive or have you already learned a little bit? We barely even get into our car right now because there are not very many places that we can go. 😥

Emoji Movies by Elle

Do you like emojis? Do you like movies? If you do, then this is the game for you!  How you play is you look at the emojis and you try to guess the movie before the answer comes up! It is as simple as that! 😂Test how well you know emojis and movies and see how many you can get correct! Tell me in the chat! I would love to know how you guys did! Can you get them all correct?

        Have you ever played 4 square? If you haven’t, you should because I know that at our school, Marshall Elementary, all lot of kids 3-5 grade love playing 4 square! 

 

Rules:

 In 4 square there are 4 squares painted on the ground and 1 person in each square. The rest of the people wait in line outside of the squares. The person in the 4th square starts with the ball and hits it to someone else in another square. Next, that person can then hit it to anyone in another square. If the ball comes to you, you hit the ball to someone else. Also, there are ways that you can get out. The judge is the 2nd person in line and decides who is out. Here are some ways that you can get out.

 

Advancing to squares: 

The goal is to move up in to a higher square. There are 4 squares and you want to be in square 4 because then you get to serve the ball. If someone in a higher square gets out then you get to move up a square. The person in line goes in square 1, 1 moves to 2, 2 moves to 3 and if you are already in server you stay there.

 

You can get out by… 

• Hitting the ball in your own square
• Hitting the outside of the squares
• Hitting the ball on the line separating the squares
• Not hitting the ball when it hits your square
• Letting the ball bounce twice in your square
• Hitting the ball when it hit in someone else’s square
• Holding the ball

 I also interviewed some kids in my class on 2 questions. One of the questions was do you like 4 square and the answers I got were…

This is one popular game at our school. What is a popular game at your school? Do you play it?

 

Cause: The first plastic was invented  by Alexander Parkes and he unveiled it in 1862. It was called parkesine and when it was hot it could be molded, but when it cooled it kept its shape. Modern plastics were invented about 100 years ago though.

Effect: Plastic kills more than 1.1 million animals every year! About 8 million pieces of plastic enter the oceans every day. Also, since the 1950’s around 8.3 billion tons of plastic have been produced and only 9% of it has been recycled. Every single piece of plastic ever created still exists and 300 million tons is produced every year.  

 

How much plastic do we use?

Enough trash is thrown away every year to circle to earth 4 times. That is about 300 million tons every year. Also, the average american throws away about 185 pounds of plastic every year. More than 1 million plastic bags are used every minute and the average time they are used for is 12 minutes.  

What kinds of things do you think you could do to use less plastic or reuse plastic?

Copyright is when you or someone else uses a picture in their work that they didn’t create. Copyright could also be if someone else uses your work of art without your permission. Here are some ways to not copyright.

 

1. You could take a picture and put it in your work. 
2. Be creative! Make your own photo on google drawings or other drawing websites. This can be really fun and you can make whatever you want.
3. You could buy an image! This isn’t likely to do at school, but now that we are all at home that is an option. 
4. You can use images from google, but you have to have permission from the artist and you have to give them credit. 
5. Finally, you could use free image websites. They have just as good images as google.

This is my avatar. My favorite color is pink and that is why I am wearing a pink shirt and there is a pink background. Also, my hair is brown, curly and looks a lot like my avatar’s hair. In addition, I have brown eyes so I made my avatar have brown eyes too. Finally, the thing that I miss about school the most is 4 square.

Mini donuts

                                                                                                                                         

Do you like donuts? Do you like sweets? Well I do!

One time my class and I went to Pike Place Market. 

I was in a car group with Reagan, my dad, Jenny and Mrs. Novy. Mrs. Novy was with another group while we were at the market though. 

After a while, we came across a donut shop. The donut shop was just a cute little stand and the donuts were mini. We got about 6 donuts and they had powdered sugar, mapel, mapel with bacon and chocolate with sprinkles. We did not get the chocolate with sprinkles one though.

 While my dad ordered the donuts I went over to the window to watch the donut machine. It was almost like magic. First the machine popped out a donut shaped blob of dough. After that the donut would float about a foot in hot oil to get cooked on 1 side. Then the machine would flip it over and it would cook on the other side. Shortly after that the pop out onto a plate. I watched donut after donut get cooked. Finally, after watching about 10 donuts get cooked I said, “Reagan come look at this!” Reagan stepped over and I told her why I thought it was really cool while she watched some of the donuts. A few minutes later the donuts were ready. We carried them around for a little while, but when we sat down for lunch they were gone in a few minutes!

Kindness to everyone

In the story Front Desk one of the themes is to be kind to everyone. In the story Mia helped Jason when he was getting bullied by some older boys. They were twisting his arms really hard and one of the boys called him “Chinese dough boy” which is really mean. This also shows that Mia is kind to everyone because Jason isn’t very nice to Mia in the book.

Also, in the book Mia’s mom made some tea and Mia brought some tea to Hank. Hank is one of the weeklies that  basically lives in the hotel. 

Finally, in the book I think that it was really nice when Mia  wrote a letter to Lupe to apologize for yelling at her. I think that this shows that Mia knows the importance of apologizing and forgiving people.

Commenting Guidelines

On my poster I wrote the top 3 things that I think should be in a comment. The first thing is that you should ask a question about their blog. For example, if they said in their story that they got ice cream, you could ask what kind of ice cream they got. The second thing that  I think is important is to give a few compliments. Make sure your compliments are about their ideas though. Finally , I think that it is important to give a friendly tip for the person’s blog.

 

Don’t forget to give a friendly introduction that says your first name and the state that you live in!
